UNFILTERED

Generational Voices

UNFILTERED is Unhate Foundation’s Observatory that listens to young people without filters and maps their condition, in order to inform educational, institutional and policy decisions.

“I really don’t know what my future will look like.”
“Being free isn’t always easy.”
“I feel good when I’m with my friends. I feel bad when I think about my life.”

WHAT IS UNFILTERED

An Observatory grounded in youth voices

UNFILTERED is a permanent laboratory dedicated to young people aged 13 to 24, integrating quantitative and qualitative research to understand what it means to grow up today — without filters.
The first edition is developed in collaboration with Fondazione Poetica for Social Generativity, under the scientific supervision of Professor Mauro Magatti and coordinated by Dario Pizzul. It is published by Erickson.
An interdisciplinary project that brings together sociology, pedagogy and psychology to interpret the youth condition in all its complexity and make it accessible and actionable.

WHY “FRAGILE”

A map, not a diagnosis

The focus of this first edition is fragility — not as an individual or generational trait, but as the outcome of the interaction between people, contexts and institutions.
In a world full of possibilities, many young people struggle to find orientation, continuity and stable reference points.
Understanding why this happens lies at the heart of the Observatory.

What Emerges FROM THE RESEARCH

Key findings

The first edition of UNFILTERED offers a clear picture:
youth fragility is not an individual problem, but a signal of how the contexts in which young
people grow up function — or fail to function.
Five key findings stand out.

Fragility is relational

It is not about “what young people are like,” but about the relationships, environments and institutions they navigate. When continuity and stable reference points are missing, the risk of stagnation increases.

More opportunities do not automatically mean more direction

The openness of the world is not enough. Without guidance, uncertainty turns into pressure and difficulty in making choices.

Transitions are the most delicate moments

Transitions between school cycles and between school and work concentrate many fragilities, especially when educational continuity is lacking.

Psychological wellbeing is a structural issue

Anxiety, exhaustion and feelings of inadequacy are not isolated episodes, but widespread signals that call for stable and accessible prevention infrastructures.

Young people want to make an impact

They do not only want to be heard, but to have real spaces for protagonism. When this happens, fragility can turn into activation.

FROM EVIDENCE TO ACTION

Five Strategic Directions

The research findings highlight areas of shared commitment across institutions, schools, businesses and the third sector.
Not ready-made solutions, but priority areas for intervention to strengthen young people’s growth pathways.

Relational Fabric

Strengthening stable educational relationships as a preventive infrastructure.

Continuous Guidance

Supporting young people over time, not only informing them at key decision points.

Quality Transitions

Transforming educational and work transitions into opportunities for growth rather than rupture.

Wellbeing and Prevention

Light, continuous and accessible prevention infrastructures within young people’s everyday environments.

Youth Protagonism

Spaces for co-responsibility, co-design and real agency.

METHODOLOGY & FUTURE EDITIONS

UNFILTERED is a permanent Observatory, designed to evolve over time.

Alongside this first edition, two thematic deep dives are already planned for future publications, focusing on key polarities that have emerged as central to contemporary youth experience.
The methodology also includes the direct involvement of young people as social researchers, valuing their perspective not only as an object of analysis, but as an active part of the knowledge-building process.

FROM RESEARCH TO LOCAL COMMUNITIES

THE UNFILTERED ROADSHOWS

UNFILTERED brings the Observatory’s findings to local communities through two roadshows active across Italy.

IN SCHOOLS AND WITH YOUNG PEOPLE
Participatory meetings that return the data as tools for interpretation and recognition.

WITH THE EDUCATIONAL COMMUNITY
Meetings with teachers, educators and decision-makers to share interpretative frameworks and build concrete educational tools.
During the roadshow, a collaborative toolkit is developed, designed to be reused within educational settings.

From Research to Practice

Have you read the findings of Unfiltered?
Now you can activate concrete tools.

Together with the Observatory’s researchers,
we have created a true toolbox for the educational community: a space where
you can identify the key signs of fragilization — those subtle shifts
and postures that deserve close attention — and access a collection of educational practices that are simple, meaningful and replicable.
